7 WAYS TO BE VISIBLE EVERYDAY WITHOUT BEING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

There’s a common misconception amongst entrepreneurs and business owners that the only way to be visible is to be on social media.

When we talk about showing up everyday and overcoming visibility fears, it’s often said in the context of being on social media.

But what if you could be visible every single day without actually being visible and without using social media at all?

Before we dive into 7 ways you can be visible without social media, I want to start by saying that I do encourage you to have a social media presence because it’s a fantastic way to build relationships with your community (ahem, potential customers) and position you as an authority in your industry.

What I don’t recommend is creating a social media strategy that leaves you feeling overwhelmed, stressed and burnt out within a month. Posting 2-3 times a week is plenty, even once a week is better than not at all as long as there’s a solid strategy behind it.

If you want to maximise your online presence without having to spend everyday on social media, here are 7 examples to get your started:

*Heads up! Links that have a * next to them are affiliate links. This means if you choose to purchase a product or sign up for a service I recommend, I’ll receive a small commission. This won’t cost you a thing but helps with the costs of running this website.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a search engine and with upwards of 433 million active users each month, it’s a great place to be found.

The beauty of Pinterest is, when you use a scheduling tool like Tailwind*, you can spend a couple of hours once a month setting it up and then leave it to its own devices.

You don’t need to check in everyday, you don’t need to show up on stories everyday, you don’t need to worry about creating new content every week.

It’s an introvert’s dream!

It’s also an incredible way to drive traffic to:

  • Your website, including blog posts

  • A lead magnet so you can grow your list on autopilot

  • A YouTube channel to gain subscribers whilst you sleep

  • Your digital and physical products

  • Your Instagram profile and other social media profiles so you can build up your community there too

Between March and August 2022, I’d posted to my Instagram profile just twice yet I still grew my email list by over 100, I had 1.5k+ visits to my website every month, I sold digital products and had enquiries landing in my inbox. Whilst on the social media surface it looked like I’d disappeared, I was still visible every single day.

Medium

I discovered the platform Medium in 2020 when I was looking for new income streams to add to my business. In the first couple of months, I was consistent with my writing and earned around $13 but then I became distracted by the coaching ‘shoulds’ and let my profile gather dust.

In July, I committed to the platform again and began to write regular articles. With over 100 million readers using the Medium platform every month, there’s huge potential for you to be found by your target audience if you write content that speaks directly to them.

You can repurpose old blog posts, expand on popular social media posts and write articles full of value that’ll help your ideal clients. This will help to build trust in your ability to support them and increase your credibility.

Not only that, once you hit 100 followers, there’s a chance to join the Medium Partner Program where you could earn for the articles you write. Medium has helped me grow my email list, drive traffic to my website and increase my listenership on The Confidence Show podcast, thanks to the way I’ve optimised my bio.

YouTube

Whilst YouTube isn’t part of my current strategy, you’ve only got to look at someone like Erin May Henry, who has an enormous following of loyal fans, to know that YouTube is a great way to be visible every day without having to be visible.

When you’re strategic with the content you create, you can welcome your target audience into your community. Creating exactly what they want means that, when they land on YouTube and search for a specific video, yours will be there waiting for them.

Repurpose videos you already have, upload your podcast to YouTube to expand the listenership or record a video of a popular blog post you wrote.

Unlike the social media algorithms that mean content lasts for less than 48 hours (excluding Reels/TikTok), YouTube content is evergreen and could be found by your ideal clients at any time.

Podcast

As of 2022, there are currently over 2 million podcasts which may seem a lot but in comparison to the 51+ million YouTube channels out there, podcasts are still a relatively untapped market. Though this is constantly expanding.

Podcasts allow you to build trust with your community and help your audience get to know you better. We all know how important the know, like, trust factor is, don’t we?

I love podcasting for many reasons and even during an unplanned break from The Confidence Show, I had more than 2,000 downloads without me actively promoting it. My second podcast, The Price with Confidence Podcast, has also continued to grow in the background without me needing to rely on social media to promote it.

Pinterest, searchable titles and my website drive the most traffic to my podcasts though I’ve recently launched social media profiles for The Confidence Show to increase the listenership. The Price with Confidence Podcast is also part of my nurture sequence for social media managers and helps to provide value to them.

Inviting guests onto your podcast to collaborate is also a great way to be visible every day without having to use social media as they’re likely to promote your conversation to their audience. This allows you to not only deliver extra value to your listeners by bringing in an expert, but also allows you to tap into a new audience.

I’ve had high ticket clients come from the podcasts, people hop into my DMs to tell me how much I helped them, I’ve grown my list on autopilot and received sales from digital products. And this is because everything I do in terms of content is strategic and with intention.

I’m more interested in building a long term content strategy that can work for me whilst I sleep than creating endless amounts of social media posts in the hopes of reaching the right person.

Blogging

Blogging isn’t dead, despite what you may have heard. Updating your blog regularly not only helps to educate your audience, building more trust with you, but it also helps your website to rank higher on Google. When your website ranks well, you’ll have people finding you organically. And who doesn't want to be found?

The great thing about spending time creating value packed blog posts is that you can then use that long form piece of content as multiple posts on your socials as well as repurposing it for Medium or turning it into a podcast episode.

Again, you can be strategic with the blog posts you create and choose to write about what your audience is actively searching for so when they type their search into Google, you’ll show up for them.

You may even be able to monetise your blog if you drive enough traffic to it each month. Ahem, Pinterest.

Email List

When you write a blog, create a podcast or grow an email list, you own it. You own the content you create, you own the stats, you own the subscriber information. You don’t own your social media platforms and they could disappear in an instant.

So whilst it may seem like a nice idea to be visible without social media, it’s also a smart one.

When you create a free lead magnet or have the option for people to join your mailing list, you can trigger an evergreen nurture sequence that runs in the background so that week after week, you’re showing up with valuable content for your community, without actually showing up.

At the end of 2021, I created a 6 month nurture sequence that’s been running in the background for me ever since. It’s helped to drive traffic to The Price with Confidence Podcast, it’s grown my social accounts for me and helped me to sell my online courses.

Whilst there’s an initial, time-consuming setup with something like this, it’s worth that time so you can be visible every day and consistently provide value to your audience.

Be a Guest

Being a guest expert is a great way to expand your network and position yourself as a leader in your industry. Not only do you stand out as someone who knows what they’re talking about but you also get to tap into an already engaged audience.

There’s also a greater level of trust when you’re a guest in someone else’s community because their audience already trusts that person and therefore trusts the person they are inviting in.

Ask your business buddies or peers in your industry if you can deliver a workshop to their community or look for guest interview opportunities. This needs to be done without expectation though. The focus needs to be on providing value, not trying to pitch yourself.

This visibility strategy ensures you’re always putting yourself in front of new people and is a much easier way to make new friends than posting on social media everyday.

Before we wrap things up, I wanted to mention something that, whilst technically social media, is also a great way to be visible every day without being on socials every day.

Reels/TikTok

Unlike static posts, these short form videos often last much longer and can be watched days, weeks and even months after being posted. I had one reel that continued to gain traction almost 6 months after being posted.

So whilst Reels/TikTok is technically social media, I’d encourage you to consider adding it to your social media strategy as this’ll also help you look like you’re being visible all the time even if you’re posting just once or twice a week.

To recap, here are 7 ways you can be visible every day without being on social media:

  1. Use Pinterest to drive traffic to your website, lead magnet, socials + products

  2. Write on Medium to reach a new, engaged audience

  3. Create searchable YouTube videos to attract the people you can serve

  4. Launch a podcast to build trust with your community

  5. Update your blog regularly and write what your audience want to read

  6. Grow your email list and nurture them on autopilot

  7. Be a guest expert to tap into brand new audiences

And consider adding Reels/TikTok to your strategy so you’re always showing up in people’s newsfeeds, even if you haven’t opened your social apps for days.
