7 Exercises You Need to Add to Your Morning Routine for Confidence

Can you really feel confident every single day?

Absolutely and in this blog post, I’ll be sharing 7 simple exercises that you can do in under 10 minutes each morning to help you start the day feeling confident in yourself and ready to take action.

Before we dive into the 7 activities to build self confidence, I want to make it clear you don’t have to do all these exercises in one go, every morning.

We all have a lot going on in our lives so it’s not always feasible to spend 3 hours on a morning routine.

Allowing yourself as little as 10 or 15 minutes in the morning to work on your mindset and connect with yourself can be enough to give you a boost in confidence.

Exercise 1: Journal as your future self

This is a powerful exercise to help you to step into that next level, most confident version of yourself.

Journaling as your future self means to simply write as if you’re already where you want to be, as if you’re already feeling full of self confidence, fearless and believing that you’re capable of achieving anything you put your mind to.

Think about the kind of confidence levels you desire. It may help to think of a celebrity or friend who’s confidence you admire.

  • How does that person act?

  • How do they hold themselves?

  • How do they speak?

  • What do they wear?

  • What action do they take?

Tap into their mindset, imagine you are behaving that same way and then spend some time writing in your journal as if you are them. You may write things like:

“I’m feeling so confident in myself today. I trust the decisions I make, I believe in myself and I know everything is working out for me. I’ve started sitting up straighter, standing taller and feeling comfortable in my own skin. I make an effort to wear something that makes me feel good everyday and I love the way this makes me feel.

I’m not afraid to stand up for myself or to speak up in meetings. I know I deserve to take up space and I feel comfortable expressing my opinions. I feel at peace in my body and I’m no longer worried about what people think of me. Everyday I choose to do something that scares me because I love to look back on what I’ve achieved and feel proud of myself. I love feeling this confident in myself”.

Allow yourself to free write and just let the words flow. You may be surprised at what comes out and how quickly the words start coming when you get into it.

When you’re finished, take some time to read back over what you’ve written and feel those feelings of confidence in your body.

Exercise 2: Repeat affirmations for confidence

Affirmations helped me change my life. They’re the main tool I used to help me go from being too afraid to leave the house, to quitting my 9 to 5 and backpacking solo around the world.

Affirmations are the simplest and easiest way to transform your mindset and help you to feel confident in yourself every day. Read 31 Affirmations for Confidence.

There are many different ways to repeat affirmations.

You can record yourself repeating the affirmations using the free ThinkUp app, and then listen back on a loop.

You could repeat the affirmations out loud to yourself as you stand in front of the mirror or as you’re doing everyday tasks like showering or washing up.

You can repeat them in your mind for 5 minutes before you get out of bed or you may prefer to write them out in your journal.

I have notifications in my calendar that pop up with different affirmations throughout the day.

Exercise 3: Visualisation

This is one of my favourites because you don’t even have to get out of bed to do it. I like to practice visualisation once I’ve snoozed my alarm for 9 minutes.

My preferred visualisation is to walk myself through my perfect day as my most confident self.

So close your eyes and imagine what would happen if you were living your perfect day right now.

  • How would you be feeling as you opened your eyes?

  • Where would you be living?

  • What would your bed be like?

  • Who would be with you?

  • What would your first move be like?

  • Would you go and have a shower?

  • Would you go make a coffee?

  • Would you brush your teeth?

  • Would you get dressed?

What would it be and literally walk yourself through every single little part of your perfect day, feeling full of confidence in yourself.

Not only does this help you to really connect with your vision, it also helps you to manifest those feelings of confidence into your body. You’re bringing the feeling of confidence into your present moment and you can carry that with you as you move through your day.

Exercise 4: Write out an empowerment list

This is an exercise that a lot of my clients struggle with to begin with, because it can be tricky, especially if you lack confidence, or you perhaps doubt yourself, or if you've got imposter syndrome.

It can be an exercise that's quite confronting and can be hard to do. I myself found it hard when I started out writing these but now it’s become a lot easier.

An empowerment list is simply a list of positive things that you write about yourself.  For example:

  • 30 things I love about myself

  • 25 things I’ve achieved in the past 5 years

  • 20 times I felt proud of myself

So anything that is positive, that is inspiring, that is empowering.

This list then becomes proof that you are capable.

So often we focus on all the things we can’t do, on the failures we’ve had or the things that haven’t gone to plan. But by writing an empowerment list, we’re training our brain to focus on all the positives, the times that things went right and the things we do like about ourselves.

Exercise 5: Listen to a podcast

The fifth activity that you can add to your morning routine to increase confidence is listening to a podcast.

This is great for you if you love to multitask or, like me, you have ADHD and need to constantly be doing something as you’re doing something else, like I have to be watching YouTube or Netflix or listening to podcasts as I’m getting ready for the day or the thoughts of all the things I need to do consume me.

I have a podcast called The Confidence Show that’s packed full of episodes created to specifically help you create more confidence.

Instead of a podcast, you could even search for confidence boosting content on YouTube and have that play in the background as you’re brushing your teeth or doing your makeup.

Any type of content that makes you feel good, that inspires you and helps you to start the day feeling motivated.

Exercise 6: Dance around to a high vibe playlist

I am a massive fan of dancing and singing - although I'm not very good at either!

But when you move your body and you’re singing along to songs that make you feel good, you’re able to release any stagnant energy that’s stuck in the body. This makes room for feelings of positivity and when you feel more positive, you naturally feel more confident in yourself.

Create a playlist on Spotify or Amazon music or wherever you like to listen to music and just push play every morning. Access my exclusive confidence boosting playlist when you purchase The Confidence Course.

Exercise 7: EFT Tapping

Our final activity that you can add to your morning routine is EFT tapping. Now, this isn’t  something I’m trained in, yet, but it’s an exercise I do regularly, especially since working with my current mindset coach.

Emotional Freedom Technique  or EFT Tapping helps to release stagnant energy and create balance in your energy system.

The idea is that you tap on certain parts of your body as you repeat specific phrases to help you process emotions or feelings you’re experiencing. This can provide instant relief from feelings of anxiety and from a confidence perspective, it can help to life your mood and fill your body with positive feelings.

Over the past few months, I’ve been working with a mindset coach and energy healer and during our sessions, we’ve used EFT to help me heal from past trauma. We’ve also created positive tapping scripts to help me start my day feeling full of self confidence and the energy to take action towards my goals.

Three of my favourite EFT trained coaches are Marie Houlden who’s my current coach, Daire Paddy and Esther McCann.

To recap, the 7 confidence boosting activities you can add to your morning routine are:

  • Journal as your future self

  • Repeat affirmations for confidence

  • Visualise yourself living your perfect day feeling full of confidence

  • Write an empowerment list

  • Listen to a podcast or inspiring YouTube video

  • Dance around to your high vibe playlist

  • Use EFT tapping to bring positive energy into your body
